چکیده

Today, a strong research effort is directed towards the development and integration of new materials, especially of polymers and biomolecules which are essential in pharmaceutical, bioengineering, and sensing applications. In fact, patterning of organic and inorganic materials, in particular enabling precise positioning of different materials with nano and micro scale resolution over large areas, is the main demand in the development of next generation sensors, biosensors, and microarray chip devices. In this study the application of laser induced forward transfer for printing of polymers in solid phase, and biomolecules e.g. liposomes and DNA in liquid phase is shown.

Laser-direct-write methods for fabrication of paper-based medical diagnostic sensors

We demonstrate the use of laser-based direct-write methods, namely laser-induced forward transfer and laser-induced photo-polymerization as printing and patterning tools for the fabrication of paper-based fluidic sensors that enable affordable point-of-care medical diagnostics. OCIS codes: (350.3390) Laser materials processing; (220.4610) Optical fabrication; (280.1415) Biological sensing and s...

Laser-induced Forward Transfer of Ag Nanopaste

Over the past decade, there has been much development of non-lithographic methods(1-3) for printing metallic inks or other functional materials. Many of these processes such as inkjet(3) and laser-induced forward transfer (LIFT)(4) have become increasingly popular as interest in printable electronics and maskless patterning has grown. These additive manufacturing processes are inexpensive, envi...

Patterning parameters for biomolecules microarrays constructed with nanosecond and femtosecond UV lasers

The development of laser techniques for transferring biomolecules on solid surfaces in a controlledmanner has attracted much attention during the last few years. Laser-induced forward transfer (LIFT) is a direct-write laser technique employed in printingmicron-sized patterns or features of a wide range of materials in solid or liquid state, in ambient atmosphere and temperature or in vacuum. In...

Dynamic spatial pulse shaping via a digital micromirror device for patterned laser-induced forward transfer of solid polymer films

We present laser-induced forward transfer of solid-phase polymer films, shaped using a Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) as a variable illumination mask. Femtosecond laser pulses with a fluence of 200-380 mJ/cm at a wavelength of 800 nm from a Ti:sapphire amplifier were used to reproducibly transfer thin films of poly(methyl methacrylate) as small as ~30 μm by ~30 μm with thickness ~1.3 μm. This...

Time-resolved digital holographic microscopy of laser-induced forward transfer process.

We develop a method for time-resolved digital holographic microscopy to obtain time-resolved 3-D deformation measurements of laser induced forward transfer (LIFT) processes. We demonstrate nanometer axial resolution and nanosecond temporal resolution of our method which is suitable for measuring dynamic morphological changes in LIFT target materials. Such measurements provide insight into the e...
